Day 3 – Delight in the Fear of the LORD as the Lord did
In simple terms the Fear
of the Lord is the awe reverence of God. Bible says in Job 28:28 says “And
unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to
depart from evil is understanding.”; Proverbs 1:7 says “The fear of
the Lord is the beginning of knowledge”; Proverbs 9:10 says “The
fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the
holy [One] is understanding.” Proverbs 8:13 says “The fear of
the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and
the froward mouth, do I hate”. Proverbs 16:6 says ”by the fear of the Lord
men depart from evil”.
From all these verses we
can understand that the Fear of the Lord is a result of knowing who God is, and
what His heart is. His heart hates every form of evil. And the one who has the Fear
of the Lord functions from knowing God and His heart’s desires. So, the
fear of the does not mean to tremble before Him, of course we will tremble
before the Almighty God, James 2:19 says “Thou believest that there is one God;
thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.”, but to hate all
forms of evil and to live in response of knowing who He is.
In Isaiah 11:2 where it is
prophesied about Jesus, it says “And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon
him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might,
the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;”. Note that the Spirit
of the Fear of the LORD rests up on Jesus. And in the verse 3 it says “And
shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord: and he
shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing
of his ears:”. Jesus delights in the fear of the LORD and He made himself of
quick understanding in the fear of the LORD that enabled Him not to judge by
what He saw and not to make any judgement or decisions by what He heard but by
what His Father revealed to Him.
In Hebrews 1:8-9 it says
about Jesus “But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and
ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. Thou
hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath
anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows”. This shows the
operation of the fear of the Lord in Jesus’s life and therefore the Father God
has anointed Him with oil of gladness than any other.
He wants us also to
delight in the fear of the Lord which will enable us to walk according to the
Father’s heart and to depart from all evil and unrighteousness and to be filled
with His joy in our life.
