Day 2 – Forgive one another as the Lord has forgiven you
Lord Jesus shows us the perfect example of forgiveness. As He was on the cross, He cried out to the Father for the ones who crucified Him, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do (Luke 23:34)”. We also see Peter going to the Lord asking how many times I need to forgive my brother, is seven enough? Jesus replied “seventy times seven” which points to abundant forgiveness. As children of God we have the confidence in the forgiving nature of our Lord and Savior Jesus that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just forgive us all our sins and cleanse us from all our unrighteousness (1 John 1:9-10). The one who said to forgive seventy times seven will surely forgive us our sins and shortcomings.
But the Lord expects us to forgive the same way as He has forgiven us. In Matthew 6:14-15, Jesus shows us the importance of forgiveness saying, “For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
Forbear one another, forgive one another as Christ forgave you - Colossians 3:12-14 - Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
Forgive as God in Christ has forgiven you - Ephesians 4:31,32 - Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
Love and forgiveness is not optional but is a command of the Lord.
